ABOUT Make For Joy

We teach diverse fine art education, and provide enriching, meaningful art classes & programs for children, teens, and adults in our downtown Art Studio, at 129 E. Alder Street, Walla Walla, Washington. All skill levels are welcome!

We can’t wait to see you in art classes, soon!

Make For Joy was launched in 2020 as the art education branch of Wheat Art Company, by owners Allison & Matthew Palmer, in order to provide high-quality fine art education and art programming in our local Walla Walla community.

We love to share enriching art lessons with our students, teaching them history and culture related to art, and introducing new materials and styles with every project! Every Make For Joy art class provides a meaningful, creative experience for all artists through incorporating a variety of professional art materials, and inspiring FUN and diverse art-making.

The name “Make For Joy” is a reminder to create and be creative for personal joy, with the freedom to be unique and expressive, and to make art without pressures, expectations, or fear of criticism. We aim for learning, honing, practicing, trying new things, and above all: enJOYing the process!

Matthew Palmer

Owner & Business Manager

Matthew is a Walla Walla native, having returned to the Valley in 2019 with his wife Allison, starting their art businesses shortly after. Matthew has enjoyed different chapters of travel & living around the globe and PNW, including Italy, Africa, Seattle, and summer fishing in Alaska. Notably, Matthew worked for nine summers in McCall, Idaho at Camp Ida Haven, where he instructed mountain biking and built/expanded a network of biking trails. His passions include being involved in and building community; outdoor activities, especially rock climbing and biking; woodworking, gardening, cooking, and travel. Matthew loves to work with kids and teens, and assists with many art camps and classes, but primarily keeps Make For Joy running in every other aspect outside the classroom! Support the arts, support local!

A BIG Thank You from us — Allison & Matthew Palmer — for supporting high-quality arts education at a local and small-business level here in our Walla Walla valley! We are a small, independent art company (Wheat Art Co.) running on our passions for creativity & community.

When Allison is not busy teaching classes, she is making original paper-cut artwork and running a greeting card business as @wheatartco.

Matthew is Operations Manager as well as a healthcare professional and woodworker; you can find his small-project woodcraft in the form of handmade earrings, home goods, card holders and shelving through Kor Woodcraft.

Again, we thank you for your support & presence & friendship!
