“Exploring Art” Series

PAINTING Class

Get out the brushes, let’s get creative & colorful! Students will paint a landscape, or draw & paint a wild animal or pet, or learn about human face proportions for a painted portrait; perhaps a still-life of fruit or a delicious dessert (cupcake, pie, or an ice cream sundae) in the style of Wayne Thiebaud, or a nature-inspired piece, like flowers or cacti, or a vase of blooms… Options are abundant!

All participants will paint the same chosen project with the step-by-step guidance of the art instructor, each creating their own beautiful artwork to take home. Choose acrylic or watercolor paint.

Clay & sculture Class

Sculpt a 3D artwork! Students will work with either colorful, bake-able polymer clay, smooth & natural air-dry clay, or ceramic clay. Each material has its own processes, and each yields incredible artistic results! Projects can range from festive desserts & foods, to animal/creature figurines, tiny toadstool cottages or building structures, colorful clay beads or keychain dangles. All participants will make the same chosen project with the step-by-step guidance of the art instructor, each creating their own sculpture.

NEEDLE FELTING Class

Recommended for ages 8+

Felting projects are created using colorful wool roving and a special notched “felting needle” to repeatedly stab and tangle the tiny wool fibers together. Projects can be either 3D or flat. 3D sculptures are crafted by felting individual rounded pieces of wool and attaching them together: pick an animal, food item, plant/flower, or small figurine. Flat felted pictures or landscapes are perhaps a little easier: choose a place in nature or theme, or look at still-life objects like fruit or desserts. It’s somewhat like painting– but with wool! Very fun and addicting. All participants will make the same chosen project with the step-by-step guidance of the art instructor, each creating their own artwork to take home.

Wet Felting is also an option.

MINI LOOM WEAVING Class

Create a colorful “Mini Tapestry” with yarn, ribbons, and colorful fibers on a flat loom, learning the basics of weaving and creating exciting patterns across this hanging art piece! Instantly focusing and fun, kids of any age/grade will enjoy this (mostly mess-free) process and project. Weavings can even easily be continued at home, if more time is required to complete. Each participant will create their own woven artwork to take home.
